In the 70´s Apple started the revolution of the personal computer by introducing the Apple II and redefined it in the 80´s with the Macintosh. To this day, Apple products such as the desktop and notebook computers, the OS X operating system as well as iLife have great innovative power and create new industry trends. The iPod and the iTunes store are truly leading the way in the digital music revolution.
The commercial introduction of the graphic user interface and the computer mouse in the 80´s are still seen as the most innovative and progressive realisations of new ideas and designs as well as a milestone in design and customer usability for Apple products. The most successful product of the last years is the MP3 player iPod, which is seen globally as the 21st century walkman. In early 2007 Apple presented the iPhone and announced its entry to the mobile phone business. Apples software (GarageBand – music, iTunes – music management, Logic – music production, Soundtrack – film scoring and more) and hardware (iPod, iPod Hi-Fi, Keyboard, Studio Display, Wireless Keyboard and more) are produced by contracting partners such as ASUS.
At the Macworld in San Francisco, Apple announced a radical change in the company’s politics, due to the release of the iPhone and Apple TV and Apples ever growing involvement in the consumer electronics market. This was also the reason to change the name of the company from Apple computer inc. to Apple inc. Based on the huge success in the iTunes segment, the iPhone is seen as a further company foundation outside of the Mac business.
