Audix CX112
Features at a glance:
Application range:
The CX112 is a stylish condenser microphone featuring a 28 mm (1.07") gold sputtered diaphragm with a film thickness of merely .006 mm. Its capsule housing, which is mounted on a specially designed silicon rubber support, helps to absorb external shock and vibration. The increased capsule stability allows the CX112 to depict incoming sound waves more accurately.
While the contact point for large diaphragm condensers is most commonly seen in the center of the diaphragm, the CX112 derives its contact point on the outer edge of the capsule. The latter doesn´t only minimize reflections and refractions, but alsoincreases the surface area of the diaphragm effectively and improves both transient response and frequency response as well.
With an extremely low noise circuitry and pre-amp design, the CX112 provides a uniform cardioid polar pattern and works over a frequency response of 20 Hz - 20 kHz. In addition, it features a -10 dB pad and bass roll-off filter.
Apart from being suitable as a mic for studio applications or digital workstations, there is an increasing tendency for artists to discover the CX112 as a mic for live sound applications as well. It delivers excellent vocal reproduction, not only that it also provides great results for an extensive range of other applications including guitar amplifiers, overheads, pianos, bowed, woodwind and brass instruments as well as room miking.
The CX 112 required 48- 52 V of phantom power for operation and comes in a foam-lined rosewood case. An elastic spider suspension (see Item No. 100026909 is available optionally.
Summary of the SOUNDCHECK 12/2005 review
The Audix CX112 is an attractive large diaphragm microphone that delivers great sonic characteristics such as its capapbility to reproduce clear highs. As it features a high SPL (sound pressure level) capability, it is suitable for kick drum miking. However, it is also ideally suited for vocal applications and for miking acoustic instruments. Its modest pricing makes it an alternative to the expensive, world-famous classics.
