Beyerdynamic Opus 89
Features at a glance:
Following the footsteps of the TG-X-60, the dynamic top model of the Opus series, places its main emphasis on rock and pop singers. Due to its frequency-independent hypercardioid pickup pattern and its high output power, the risk of feedback can be reduced to a minimum. Its frequency response is specifically tailored for vocals and even ensures a detailed, powerful sound in a vast dynamic spectrum on stage. In contrast to the TG-X-60, the proximity effect, i.e. the bass boost effect has been compensated for. It provides rugged construction and a proven shockmount system. In addition it features a steel mesh grille and a built-in filter which minimises wind and breath “pop” noise.
MP-Rating:In contrast to the TG-X-60, the proximity effect, i.e. the bass boost effect has been compensated. It provides rugged construction and a proven shockmount system. In order to avoid wind and breath “pop” noise, it features a steel mesh grille and a built-in filter. Just as the TG-X-60, the Opus 89 places its main empasis on rock and pop singers. 6 Stars.

What are handheld vocal microphones?
Microphones that you hold in your hands while performing are considered as handheld vocal microphones. These microphones have to fulfil certain criteria. They need to offer high feedback-rejection and most of them feature cardioid, supercardioid or hypercardioid polar patterns. In addition they are required to provide a rugged construction, full bass and crispy highs. Their frequency response is usually tailored, because these microphones are designed for vocal pickup. Models featuring a pronounced proximity effect are frequently used. When choosing a mic, you should also make sure that wind and breath "pop" noise as well as handling noise are sufficiently suppressed.
