Kirk Hammert replaced Dave Mustaine one week after he had been discharged from Metallica in April 1983 and, although he only joined the band two years after the foundation, he had already played on the track “Kill em all!” from the first album of June 1983. Since 1989 he has been a ESP-endorser. Everything else is history.

Four of their LPs reached No. 1 in the billboard charts; no other band sells more from its back-catalogue than Metallica.

Hardly any manufacturer of e-guitars is so tightly connected to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal as ESP and hardly any manufacturer has brutally intruded into this market in the past years as has ESP. Since the foundation of the company in 1975 – at this time they only produced spare parts for e-guitars – and the beginning of the production of own guitars in 1983 up to now, ESP has always been up to date.

ESP achieved their break through in 1989, when George Lynch and Kirk Hammett launched the first Signature models. Since then the list of endorsers has been growing. In 1996 ESP created the brand LTD, under which name inexpensive and pared-down versions of the most ESP-models were produced in Korea and Indonesia. Today ESP/LTD holds one of the leading positions in the genre of hard ´n heavy guitars.
