DJ Equipment
The good-old hand-driven turntable - in the year 2008 it is still the central tool of the DJ-guilde. But the technical revolution hasn´t passed this piece of equipment either. Nowadays you can see tunrtables with USB-interface (e.g. Stanton T90 USB or Numark TT USB) which can be connected straigt to your computer without a digital phono-amplifier. It doesn´t only make the digitalisation of your private vinyl collection easier, but also opens the door to analogue and computer based DJ-ing.
There´s a lot happening in the digital DJ field as we can see by the Serato Scratch Live from Rane. This system connects two turntables or CD-players to your computer by USB-interface. Due to the use of special timecode-vinyl or CD the songs you have stored on your hard drive can be scratched like before. Another procedure that also belongs to the area of digital Dj-ing is Total Control from Numark, a USB-controller for your DJ-software. 31 knobs, 20 control dials and 5 faders offer a direct access to the most important software-parameters like Line and Crossfader, EQ, Cue, Play, Pitch etc. The model VCI-100 from Vestax has also got an eye on the computer based Dj-ing. It also works as a USB-controller with two jog-wheels and telecontrols altogether 90 parametres DJ-software, e.g. Native Instruments Traktor or Ableton Live.
Another trend is the JB Systems MSD-900; it builds a bridge between your computer and the the real world. The MSD-900 is a scrachable double-MP3-player including a mixer which consists fo two SD-cards for upto eight gigabyte material or 1.600 songs. The CD-players are also on the march. More and more are launching scratchable multi-function equipment which not only play CDs, DVDs and MP3s, but also organize iPods and memory sticks per USB-docked hard drives. Son songs you have stored can be included into your DJ-performances.
