WEATHERKING™
Remo’s original WEATHERKING™ series launched the modern drum era with the introduction of its DIPLOMAT™, AMBASSADOR™, and EMPEROR™ drumheads. Their full rich, tones have made these classic heads the drumhead standard since their 1957 introduction. They are the preferred factory-supplied drumheads by almost all drumset manufacturers in the world. WEATHERKING™ heads are used equally in live performances or studio recording, and are ideal for concert, jazz, rock & pop.
The DIPLOMAT™, AMBASSADOR™, and EMPEROR™ names are so widely understood they’re also commonly used to describe drumhead weights. Remo’s brightest sounding DIPLOMAT™ uses a single layer of 7.5 mil (.0075") Mylar® film. An AMBASSADOR™ head uses a slightly thicker 10 mil (.010") single ply film while the most durable EMPEROR™ uses two 7 mil films together. These principal drumheads come in three standard finishes, from the brightest sounding clear to the darkest sounding coated, with the smooth white finish is a middling sound between clear and coated smooth white. These standard weights and finishes are the basis for how modern drumheads are described.

The Story:
An age-old instrument, drums — originally made with animal skins — have withstood the test of time. In 1957, Remo Belli changed the percussion industry forever by creating the first synthetic drumheads using a material called mylar, developed by the DuPont company.
Recipe for Success:
The aluminum hoop frame of the drumhead is cut and shaped. Next, a clear polyester film of mylar is stretched, molded and glued to the frame. After a pinstripe is added, the drumhead is placed in an oven to dry. The drum shell, made of fiberboard, is shaped and decorated. Once both pieces are completed, the drumhead is attached to the shell and tightened with chrome hardware.
Facts:
Remo drumheads are used by 90 percent of professionals and 75 percent of amateurs, worldwide.
When the Beatles made their 1964 U.S. debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, Ringo Starr´s drum kit featured Remo drumheads.
Mylar is strong enough to hoist up a car!
