Shure PG58
Features at a glance:
The PG 58 is characterised with a frequency response that is specifically tailored for vocal applications. Its cardioid pickup pattern is characterised by a strong sensitivity to sound signals from the front of the mic which virtually eliminates the risk of feedback even when it’s exposed to high volume levels. The microphone features a dynamic capsule with a simple, rugged coil which handles even extremely high volume levels without distortion. In addition it features a capsule with neodymium magnet for a high output level and an internal shock mount for reduced handling noise along with a durable metal housing, an On/Off switch, a hardened steel mesh ball grille that resists wear and abuse as well as the integral “pop” filter which reduces explosive breath sounds and wind noise, all of which make this professional microphone extremely versatile. It is supplied with a 4.5 m cable, a break-proof microphone mount and a storage bag.

What are handheld vocal microphones?
Microphones that you hold in your hands while performing are considered as handheld vocal microphones. These microphones have to fulfil certain criteria. They need to offer high feedback-rejection and most of them feature cardioid, supercardioid or hypercardioid polar patterns. In addition they are required to provide a rugged construction, full bass and crispy highs. Their frequency response is usually tailored, because these microphones are designed for vocal pickup. Models featuring a pronounced proximity effect are frequently used. When choosing a mic, you should also make sure that wind and breath "pop" noise as well as handling noise are sufficiently suppressed.
