The Shure PG81 is an affordable multi-purpose microphone! Based on the successful SM 81, the PG 81 features consistent sensitivity throughout the whole frequency range. Its pronounced cardioid pickup pattern provides high feedback resistance even in high volume settings. As an alternative to phantom powering, an internal 1.5 V mignon battery (type AA) may also be used to power the preamp making the PG81 ideally suited for “direct to DAT/MD/Laptop” recordings as well. It features a shock mount for reduced handling noise and an On/Off switch.
MP-Ratinig: A great mic. However, when used as an overhead mic, the On/Off switch might become problem. Always make sure your mic´s "on". Usually you wouldn´t expect it to have an On/Off switch and when switched "off" you might not find the problem when troubleshooting. Still, we think it deserves 4 Stars.
