Nearfield Monitors
Many studios deal with the topic of nearfield monitors very "stepmotherly". To play your own music you juswt stick to your existing HiFi-equipment or choose doubtful multi-media apparatus from any electrical distributor. That´s a pity, as you can get sensible sound solutions which allow reliable signaling for low-budget prices.
As there is a space deficiency in most project studios, near- or nearestfield monitors with four-inch-chassis are used which can acoustically bridge a distance of up to two metres without hindrance. The smallest equipment of this kind is called desktop- or mediaboxes, as they are positioned on the desk right next to the computer monitor or in tight-spaced video editing suites. The model Edirol MA-15D can be recommended, as it even has its own digital input.
If you have a little more space, monitors with six- or eight-inch-chassis can be recommended which naturally have a better bass recording than the smaller ones. For studios with professional ambitions we recommend the speakers from Genelec which in addition to the Subwoofer 7070 B sounds spectacular. Still, low-budget buyers don´t have to do without good listening. Yamahas HS-80, for example, - together with the Subwoofer HS-10W - or the VRX-6/8 from KRK are also a good choice.
