Michael James Romeo (born March 6, 1968 in New York, NY, USA) is an American guitarist and founder of the progressive metal band Symphony X. His most important influence was Yngwie Malmsteen, whose new-classical style can still be slightly heard from Romeos Music. However, Romeo has developed his own style, which distinguishes him from other musicians of this genre. Typical for Romeo is his relatively frequent use of so-called "tapped arpeggios", along with the "classic swept arpeggios". Thus the tap arpeggios not only descending but also ascending, mostly in simultaneous accompaniment of a keyboard.
