Around in 1941 Les Paul built “The Log” which was his first prototype of an electric solid body guitar. He used a block of maple wood which he fitted with a bridge, pickups, tailpiece and a normal Gibson guitar neck. He then cut along one his Epiphone guitars and glued both halves of the body to the back and front of the block and finished was his first solidbody electric guitar. Special Collection The Les Paul Junior debuted in 1954. Equipped with merely one pickup, it was offered at an excellent value which was why it gained quick success. In 1955 the Les Paul Special was launched and was to complete the original quartet of Les Paul models. While the contemporary Epiphone pendant has been equipped with 2 Open Coil Humbuckers, the original model would feature Soap Bar P-90 Pickups.
