Fender American Elite Jazz Bass MN CHMP · Electric Bass Guitar
Fender American Elite
The Fender American Elite instruments series combine traditional style with modern sound and features. All the guitars in the American Elite series (and only these) are equipped with the new 4th generation Noiseless pickups, representing a new quantum leap in pickup design. The neck profile on these guitars changes at the height of the Neck foot. The revised neck foot favours the playability of a modern "C" into a modern "D", at the same time the fretboard radius mutates from 9.5 "to 14". The Stratocaster Locking mechanisms ensure in conjunction with the modern knife-edge tremolo for good tuning performance. Also very pleasant, the truss rod is easily accessible from the pickup end of the fretboard.

Finally a new bass that ticks my boxesDynodenny on 30.05.2016
I have been looking for a primary bass for many years that fit my main criteria in regard to feel and sound. If I could get that with something new, all the better. Since I lost my '66 Precision and'70/71 Jazz to theft a few years ago I have been reluctant to rely on a vintage instrument as my main working bass. Many purchases of newer instruments have been fine, if unfulfilling to play. Yet I knew if I kept at it I would find a new bass that was a winner off the shelf. The new Fender Elite may just be the bass I have been looking for.
For start I love the look. My old loved Jazz had a block inlay and black bound maple neck that had not realised was something I missed. From the moment I held an Elite I felt I was holding hands again with an old friend. The fact the neck profile is different to my old bass made it an even better experience. Yes that neck has come back from time to time, but none I have played felt right. This one did, playing this bass felt great. The Hybrid neck profile really works. When I plugged it in I was impressed with the sound profile as well. The passive mode showed excellent clarity and definition, no doubt down to the finally solved issues with the noiseless v4 pickups. Active mode just gave more range and options as opposed to making up for inherent deficiencies. Where as my current gigging jazz bass has low end warmth I look for, the Elite gives a bit of that up for much better balance throughout the tonal spectrum. The gigs I have done with the Elite I find I sit better with the band providing a big bass sound with good detail without squashing the other players. Fewer dirty looks from the guitar player-always a bonus. The FOH mixer says its great for him too.
In the studio we found the sound to be near ideal. An active DI box into a quality vintage mic amp needed no intervention to sit perfectly. A bit of re-amping in the mix and the problem of the bass sitting where there was body and note quality against the more dense music beds now so prevalent was a non issue.
Although as delivered it was set up very well and the intonation about as perfect as any bass I have ever played, our guitar tech did a couple of minor tweaks and it took it from excellent to superb.
The only negative was a manufacturing fault in one of the pickups that Musik Produktiv addressed without delay. Its early days in the production of these and a few hiccups are to be expected.
Only the passing months will tell if this is the bass I have been looking for all these years. Early signs are that, yes it probably is.
