Everywhere they were looking for new and innovative forms. The then Gibson President Ted McCarty asked the autodesigner Ray Dietrich from Detroit to design a guitar, which should stand out from competing products and correspond to the times. Dietrich oriented himself on the Explorer and rounded off their edges, took a neck that passed through the body, and used 90 degrees to the head plate banjo tuners as a design element - and to surpass the normal Fender Strat tuners. The famous Firebird appeared, from 1963 a series with four models was released. Here we have a Firebird V with Maestro tremolo.
